Surf Report: Choppy, and rougher…

Water Temp: Perfect

Air Temp: 86

Weather: Sunny with a few clouds here and there…

So, I’m married to an OLD LADY!  Today Tiffany turned a quarter of a Century!  I can’t believe it.  It was great being able to spend the day with her.  I told her that we went on a destination b-day.  Today for her birthday we went to an even more desolate island than Cape Hatteras.  We went over to Ocracoke which is just south of Hatteras.  It is about 45 minutes to get there including a ferry ride.  Pretty neat day.  We hit the beach for a while, and swam.  Then we had lunch together and walked around.  We had a great time!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY AMAZING WIFE!

Here is the pictorial update…

A whole bunch of pictures from our day today.  A couple of them are from the ferry, and the rest are from Ocracoke.  Happy Birthday Tiff.

Surf Report: Smaller hills than the day before,

Water Temp: Beautiful yet again

Air Temp: 84 degrees

Weather: Bright, with hazy skies…

Fishing Report: Still no fish caught.  There are two big rays that keep swimming under the kayak.  They are very playful, and freaky all at the same time.  Pretty cool though.  I wouldn’t mind hooking into one…

So far today we have dug a big hole played in it, and then jumped over big waves!  The key phrase of the morning was, look daddy, another huge wave.  He’s too funny.  Now Grace, on the other hand, has it made.  She is under her umbrella just hanging out in the pool.  She has zero desire to get out of that pool.  It is so funny.  It’s like we put her on a three foot leash or something.  She stays absolutely put in that pool and loves life!  The best $4.95 spent all vacation so far.  So after a hard morning of playing this is what we got around 12:45…

Nap Time

They both played so hard.  I love when they sleep well!  I guess I will do some reading now.  I’m reading a book called “Refresh, Renew, Revive” by H.B. London Jr.  One of my favorite guys.  So, I guess I’m gonna go try and “relax, rest, & read”.

I will continue later…

So, here is the daily pictorial update…

Also tonight Noah and I flew the kite again!  He was really excited about it.  Here’s a quick video of Noah describing as any 2 year old would describe a kite flying…

We had a great day today.  I am looking forward to tonight.  Wii Sports Tournament here we come… LOOK OUT!

Surf Report: Little hills, no white water…

Water Temp: Beautiful

Air Temperature: 88

Weather: Sunny- Clear Skies

Fishing Report: Nothing caught yet; Saw a huge Ray swimming below the Kayak.

I went out on the kayak for a bit today.  I tried catching some waves however, there wasn’t a whole lot to catch… Maybe tomorrow.  I started to build and fashion a car in the sand for Noah to play in, but he wasn’t digging the whole car idea.  It was more fun to fill in the hole that I had already dug… Unbelievable.  When I was a little kid, Uncle Dick, used to dig my cousins and I a big old car equipped with front and back seats.  Or maybe sometimes we would get a boat.  Listen closely and you too can learn how to build a sand car, or it’s near relative, the sand speedboat.  Two basic steps, dig a two level hole.  A deep part for your feet, and a shallow part for your rear.  Next, take the sand you have removed, and fashion a front.  Here is where it get’s tricky.  Round the shape in the front for a car, or triangulate the front for a boat!  Voila!  There you have it.  Anyhow, Noah didn’t dig the sand car… Maybe next year.

So here is the daily pictorial update!

So today I accomplished #1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, and had today’s part of 15.  Not a bad day if I do say so myself.  A bit of an over achiever today {especially for vacation! I better slow it down…}

So, the objective here is not to blog about ministry, or work, philosophies of Youth Ministry, or anything in particular.  The idea this week is to talk about how great it is being a dad, and a husband.  We are on vacation in Cape Hatteras NC.  I won’t tell you where for fear that some of you wild youth group kids would actually drive down here so that you could put sticky notes all over my car, and fill it with paper shavings.  Not mentioning any names… LIZ… but anyhow, We are somewhere in God’s great land of NC.

Today we were supposed to wake up at 4:20.  Um… yeah… so, we woke up at 5:30.  How about them apples?  So, we didn’t so much get on the road by 5.  But we did leave by 6:30.  Only an hour and a half off.  Not bad huh?  Here are some shots of the trip.  Tiffany has documented most of these, except for the one where both Tiffany and I are in.  That was actually taken by Noah.

We are all moved in, and things are getting settled.  I can’t wait to drag the kayak up to the beach tomorrow, and just hang out with Tiff and the kids.  It is going to be great.  We are supposed to actually get some medium size waves tomorrow.  Maybe we’ll get some surfing in!  Hopefully at least some skimming.

Oh, I shaved my head too.  Maybe this is in symbolism of having a fresh start this week at relaxing or something…  Who knows… or maybe it’s just something I’ve been wanting to do…

So here are a couple thoughts of what is going through my mind right now.

  1. We’re painting the Student Center today.  I am excited about getting the next phase of the student center started.  We are trying to work with a factory or warehouse feel.  So the walls will be painted a silverish color.  The center wall behind the stage will be a blue color.  A whole bunch of people will be coming to help paint today!  I am so thankful to have all their help.
  2. Packing for Vacation tomorrow.  AH!  I’ve got to get the van cleaned out, and then packed up with all of our gear in order for us to get down to Cape Hatteras tomorrow.  It will be a great time to relax and rest.  I can’t wait.
  3. I’m still thinking about what Pete Wilson wrote in this post.  Man that would be an incredibly scary thing to be cast off into the fire.  To be cut down and set aside simply because you didn’t abide. To see all the hard work done in ministry set aside; scary, and sad. I’m thinking about how I can abide better today, tomorrow and the next day.
I guess that’s the three pressing thoughts on my mind right now…  As an added bonus here is a picture of us at Hatteras on Vacation 2 years ago.  With a little tiny noah.  Not so tiny anymore.

In three days I will be driving down to the distant shores of Cape Hatteras.  I am so looking forward to it!  Tiffany and I will be going on vacation a little early this year, but man has it come at a good time.  I am looking forward to spending time with this woman.

We were sitting talking the other night about things that we were looking forward to doing on vacation.  She asked me what I am looking forward to.  It was a great question, I thought that I would share it with you.  Here it is, the unofficial list (in no particular order) of what Peter is looking forward to doing on Vacation this year:

  1. Fishing
  2. Building Sand Castles with Noah
  3. Knocking down sand castles with Noah
  4. Surfing
  5. Skim boarding
  6. Swimming
  7. Kayaking
  8. Reading
  9. Playing Guitar
  10. Playing Guitar Hero
  11. Spending time with family
  12. Laughing
  13. Eating some good old U-Peel shrimp
  14. Celebrating Tiffany’s Birthday
  15. Eating Breakfast everyday with a cup of coffee
There you have it.  The unofficial, incomplete list of things that Peter wants to do while on vacation in Cape Hatteras NC.  What about you?  What things do you like doing while on vacation?

So, Tiffany and I have learned over the course of our marriage that when you can, find the best deal before you buy stuff.  Whoa Baby, have we ever found some good deals.  Back here I posted about the beginning of our CVS deal finds.  You can read up on that story here.  This is a picture of all the stuff that we got today.  We went to CVS and got all of this stuff for about $45.  But got $26 back in extra care rebates!  How awesome is this?

We got: 4 Bottles of Listerine, 14 packs of AA Batteries, 2 packages of razors, 5 packages of regular diapers, 1 package of swimmie diapers, 3 bottles of shampoo, 1 bottle of baby shampoo, 1 deodorant, 2 bottles of dish soap, 1 spray suntan lotion, and 1 diabetes monitor.  This is unbelievable.  You have got to meet my wife!  She is a master at hunting down coupons, and tracking down deals!  My wife is amazing!  I am so in love with her, and not just for her deal finding abilities!

This was too good not to share!

~Peter

So, have you ever seen a man walking around the mall with a totally girlie diaper bag?  Chances are that it could have been me that you saw.  Even diaper bags that are supposed to be completely gender neutral still have a very feminine connotation to them.  Especially when a dude is walking around with it.

So, here’s the problem.  How do you take your kids out in public (equipped with all the necessary items that come along with taking a young kid out, i.e. diapers, wipes, cream, etc.) and still look like a man’s man.  Well, after a while of searching, I think that I have found the answer.  It is as close to a man’s diaper bag as I could come up with, which from here on out will be called a “man bag”.

Here’s a shot of my recent trip to the park with Noah, with my man bag.

So, that’s about as manly as you can make it.  The bag slings over your shoulder.  To you men out there carrying diaper bags… any ideas?  Maybe we should get together and patent a diaper bag that any man would feel confident carrying!  What do you think?  Just a thought!

~Peter

I’ve got to keep up with this guy.  So, here is one other reason we had kids.  Here’s part one.  So anyway, it’s along the same vein as part one, but it is a little different anyhow.  It’s a classic shot of my man Noah!  Part one was so that we could have a natural alarm.  Part two is, so that his sister would have the natural alarm too!  Check out this shot.  His expression is priceless!

Didn’t expect the next reason to come so quickly, but it sure did!  Hope you guys have a great day.  If you ever need to be woken up anytime before the sun rises, let me know, and I’ll send Noah over for a “Great” nights sleep.

~Peter

Could it be you?  Could you be the 1,000th person who has come to read the thoughts and feelings of a child of God, husband, father, son, youth pastor, etc?  In the last month or so, I have posted almost everyday, and right now, we are on the husk of reaching 1,000.  Very cool.  Thanks so much for coming and reading!  Hope it’s been fun, or at least interesting…  Maybe it was you who made it roll over to four digits!
