The race is over.  He finished well.  “Well done my good and faithful servant.”  Those are the words that my dear dad heard as he entered into spending eternity with our God.  Today his fight with Lewy Bodies Disease is over.  Today his fight with this body, and the confines of it, are over.  Today he is set free!

I wept thinking about how he will be able to walk again.  How he will be able to think again.  How he will be able to sing and pray again.  How he will be able to speak again!  I miss him terribly already.

God gave me this scripture passage today while I was sitting in my office lost in thoughts and memories.

“But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.  I was crying to the Lord with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain.  I lay down and slept;  I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.”  Psalm 3:3-5

Thank you to each of you who have helped pray, and ask God to take my dad.  He has heard our cries!  Praise God.

I have this song running through my head right now…

Blessed Be Your Name In the land that is plentiful,  Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your name Blessed Be Your name, When I’m found in the desert place, Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed Be Your name,

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord

Blessed be Your name, Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your glorious name,

Blessed be Your name When the sun’s shining down on me When the world’s ‘all as it should be’ Blessed be Your name Blessed be Your name On the road marked with suffering Though there’s pain in the offering Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name Blessed be the name of the Lord

Blessed be Your name, Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your glorious name,  You give and take away, You give and take away, My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name…

Dad, I am proud of you.  I miss you.  I love you.  And I want to be just like you.

~Your Son

I was directed to your loving tribute to your father because our family is dealing with Lewy Body Dementia as well.

I wept right along with you when you wrote:
“I wept thinking about how he will be able to walk again. How he will be able to think again. How he will be able to sing and pray again. How he will be able to speak again! I miss him terribly already.”

May the love you had for each other sustain you all the days of your life.

Peter, your family will be in my prayers. What you’ve written about your dad is beautiful. Your father was a precious, precious man; to aspire to be like him is a worthy goal.

Praise God for the hope we have in Christ! While your heart misses his bodily presence, I know you are rejoicing with him for the pure joy and ecstasy he is experiencing now. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

  4. My heart and prayers are with you and yours. I praise God for the certain knowledge that your Dad is with Him and is strong and happy and healthy and hole.

My Mom is in the midst of her LBD journey. Take time to bask in His replenishing and everpresent love and look forward to seeing your Dad free of his LBD in the future with Him.

Our prayers are with your Mom, your sisters, and you. May God grant you the strength to share at the service what Our Father would have you to share. Just simply point them to the gospel! That is what your Dad always did! Your Dad was a remarkable and Godly man. He has impacted so many lives.
Our love and prayers are with you all.

Jeff was a wonderful volunteer who faithfully served at the USO at DFW Airport on Friday’s with Waxahachie Bible Church. His heart for serving the troops and and all the military was so precious. He always spoke with kindness and gentleness to each soldier. He was truly the hands and feet of Jesus!

We know he fought the good fight , and is home rejoicing with the Lord.

We will miss him at the USO!

    Peter ~
Though I did not know your father personally, I understand he was a wonderful addition to our ‘send-off’ crew, and a replacement DAD to say “good-by” to, for many of the soldiers.
After reading your beautiful tribute, from your heart, I would say that you were very fortunate to have a Dad, like that, to love …….. and he was even more fortunate to have a Son, like you, to love.
My prayers go with you and your family, as you remember your lifetime of memories with your Dad.
May God Bless you and your family, and comfort you in the days ahead.

    God bless you Peter.

My heart is so sad to hear of your father’s passing. You so eloquently expressed your family’s deep love not only for each other, but more importantly for the Lord. I know Jeff is in the arms of Jesus, whole! Thank you for sharing beautiful thoughts of and love for your father.

I was blessed to know Jeff through Operation Send Off at the USO. He will so be missed. His gentleness was a blessing to both the troops he served and those who served along side him. The kindness he lived and shared was such a gift and example of the Hands and Feet of Christ Himself. I can almost hear the Lord Himself telling Jeff, “Well done my good and faithful one!”

Strength and Blessings as your grieve your father. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  11. Peter (and Tiffany),

We are thinking about you during this time and will be praying for you and your family. We praise our Lord and Savior that your dad is at home rejoicing with his God.

    Love you guys,

  12. Peter,
I never really knew your father, but after attending his memorial service tonight, I now feel as if I do. What a wonderful testimony your father’s life is. Your tribute that you spoke tonight was inspirational. It makes me want to be a better father, just like your father was to you and the girls. Thank you for sharing the words of your father, when he said LOVE is spelt “T-I-M-E”. I needed to be reminded of that. I still don’t know how your father was able to minister to so many people in such a short life, but it’s clear that he used the little time he had for others before thinking of himself. He no doubt has many rewards in heaven.

  13. Dear Peter,
I knew your mom and dad about 30 years ago, when your dad was the youth pastor of a church in Pennsauken and I was a kid in his youth group. I just talked to my folks who told me he’d gone home and I found this blog via google.

The man you write about is the man I knew then. That he stood faithful and firm in Jesus thru all his days and trials speaks volumes of the grace of God. May each of us stand in Jesus every day of our existence on this planet, not wavering, dependent in His grace alone – like your dad who is now standing in His presence.

May God’s grace continue to undergird you and your mom.

  14. I did not know your Father very well, I had met him at DFW and talked to him a couple of times. Just what little we talked, I knew he had to be a wonderful Man, Father, and Volunteer. He was such an inspiration to so many Troops and everyone else who were so lucky to meet and know him. He will be missed very much, but as we all know He is in a much better place with no more pain or suffering. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your Family.

    Dear Peter,

We knew your Mother and Father when he was youth pastor at the church in Pennsauken. He was the best! We will never forget how he helped our oldest son Kevin as he encouraged him to come out to youth group. They became quite close along with our whole family. It was Kevin that called us tonight to let us know of Jeff’s going home. What a terrific dad you had!! Although he has gone to a much better home we know that you and your family will miss him. Blessed be the name of the Lord for He is good! Please also relay our thoughts and prayers to your mohter, Sarah.
