How Deep the Father’s Love For Us

In the near passing of Mr. Bear, I realized just how much I love my kids.  And that silly old bear reminded me just how much God loves me.  Click here to read more about that.  So, that has been on my mind a lot lately.  I am overwhelmed by how much God loves me.

God's loveWhile making the drive from Scotch Plains to Nutley, I love to fire up my itunes radio and listen to the Kings Kaleidescope station.  And the song “How deep the Father’s Love For Us” came on.  It reminded me all over again of what I was already thinking about.  So, I couldn’t help share this great song with you.  This was written by a song writer, Stuart Townend who was setting these deep truths into song.  Soak in the depth of these words,

How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

That is incredible… God’s love is so big, so strong, so unending, and such an overwhelming force that He would give up His only son, Jesus, so that He could have me.  He did this even in the midst of my brokenness, my sin stained life.  In the mess of all my ugliness God took what was beautiful, and perfect, and dashed it on the cross in order to put me back together and bring me to Himself.  That is a ridiculous amount of love!  To much to begin to understand.

He goes on to write verse 3,

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Every good in me, has been found in every horrible thing that was done to Him.  What can I boast in that doesn’t originate in all that God has done for me through Jesus on the cross?  Is it my marriage?  My kids? My job?  My family?  My home?  What is it?  All of those things point back to what Jesus did on the cross.  Because without Jesus, I would be an uglier, messier, sinner than I already am.  That’s a scary thought!  Townend’s words ring true in my life, “But this I know with all my heart, His wounds have paid my ransom.”  And I am so grateful…

Here’s one of my favorite versions of this song… And remember just how deeply God loves you.

Don’t Give Up

Have you seen this video of Musharaf “Mushy” Asghar yet?  I first saw it over on Carlos Whitaker’s blog and it brought me to the place where I could have started crying.  I watched it twice because I had to see it again.  Mushy has a massive stutter that keeps him from living a normal life like the rest of the world.  He faces unbelievable difficulties and odds.  Do me a favor, Do yourself a favor and watch this 5 minute video.  I promise you’ll be glad you did.

I couldn’t help but think about how much Mushy had to overcome to get to the place where he was able to stand in front of his classmates and deliver that short yet powerful speech.  His life was riddled with obstacles and challenges.

Do you remember your dream?

Somewhere along the way, I imagine that you have had a dream, a goal, or a desire that seemed unobtainable.  Can you remember the passion that you first had for that dream?  Do you remember how excited you were when you first felt that drive and that desire?

What got in your way?

In a moment of my most sincere honesty, you have to know that my journals are riddled with dreams that I have yet to see fulfilled.  In fact, there are some dreams that I have yet to even chase.  The two biggest culprits that keep me from those dreams are fear, and a lack of self-discipline.

I’m working on knocking them out.  One day at a time.  One step at a time.

God has given each of us a dream, a calling, a mission, or a purpose.  Maybe it is something that you want to do for the Lord.  Maybe it is something that you want to do for a friend.  Maybe it is something that you want to do for your family.  Sometimes we loose sight of that dream, calling, mission, or purpose.  We put it on the shelf because it is just to hard, or it will require too much sacrifice.

Don’t give up on God’s dream for your life.

Maybe the best thing you can do is to slip on a pair of headphones and begin to chase after that dream.

I have mine on right now.

Is Your Life As Ridiculous As This Video?

I’m not gonna lie, this was one of those days that it was really fun to go into ‘work’.  Check out this video that the other Campus Pastor’s and I shot for our Family Ministry.

MAKE SOME NOISE FOR LIQUID NUTLEY!!!

I would like to actually raise a technicality.  I don’t think that my behavior in that event was actually dishonorable.  Come on people, we are in North Jersey.  Nutley rep’s people from Newark, Patterson, and a ton of other places.  I didn’t draw blood, knock anyone out, or damage property.  I think that I played pretty fairly.

It is a good thought though…

I wonder if we played back a video of our actions from this past day if they would look as ridiculous as this video does.  Sometimes I wonder if God is watching us scratching His head saying, what in the world are you doing?  I gave you all those talents, gifts, and abilities, and this is what you do with them?  You are behaving like such a child.

And that is why I am so thankful for God’s love, grace, and forgiveness.  Because I know that there have been more than just one or two of those moments where the video feed from my life looks exactly like this video–ridiculous.

So, what about you?  How have you been?  Do you deserve the dishonorable sign?

Crossroads moments in life…

I recently wrote about what you do when you are waiting and asking why God is allowing something to happen.  You can read that over here… Recently our church, Liquid Church has been doing a series called Crossroads.  It is a series where we are taking a look back in order to know how we go forward.  At some point in time we all face a crossroads moment in life.  It’s one of those decision points that impact our future in a way that we can scarcely imagine when we are faced with that decision.  Should we sell the house?  Should you go back to grad school?  Should you have a baby?  Those are Crossroads decisions.

Jeremiah 6:16 says, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Check out our series Crossroads.

We Love Outreach Highlights

We Love, Liquid Church

Last weekend Liquid Church’s Morristown Campus gathered together to partner with New Jersey Aids Services to totally ‘makeover’ their house.  It was an incredible weekend.  You can read more about it in a post I wrote last week.

We had well over 300 people serve more than a total of 1000+ man hours.  I am completely amazed at what has been done in our community by Liquid Church Volunteers.  In our staff meeting this past week someone mentioned that they were talking to one of the residents of the New Jersey Aids Services home and they said this:

I know that God loves me because of what you guys are doing.

WOW!  That is incredible.  I am proud of our Church.  Liquid Church, thanks for taking seriously what Jesus said in John 13:34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

It was good to see Christ on display for the community in Morristown, NJ.  It doesn’t stop here either!  Liquid New Brunswick and Liquid Nutley are each doing a weekend of serving this weekend too!  I can’t wait to hear about the stories from their outreaches too.

Here is a Highlight Video from this past weekend here in Morristown.  To check out some of the pictures taken that weekend click here.

Check out an article that the Daily Record wrote about what Liquid did last weekend.

Here is an article that the New Brunswick Patch has on what Liquid New Brunswick is doing.
